Today I have exciting news to report from the Sly Cooper fan community: the famous Cooper Capers online fan magazine will be making a triumphant return! I recently received an email from the Cooper Capers editor stating that, after nearly five years, Cooper Capers would return in the form of seven new issues! The first issue of the the Cooper Capers revival will appear on April 1st, 2014. Cooper Capers is exemplary of early Sly Cooper fan culture and was once one of the leading sources of Sly Cooper information. You can check out the original and upcoming issues of Cooper Capers at CooperCapers.webs.com, and I have attached the email that I received from the magazine editor below:
Hi Tyler
I know this is nearly two years late, but I'm pleased to announce that after a five-year hiatus Cooper Capers will return for at least seven more issues to be released once a month. Issue 4 will be released on April 1st (no it's not an April Fool!). If you could spread the word around that would be great! I'm always open for suggestions and issues 4-10 will be a lot different from the first three.

Sly Cooper Fan Network: Second Anniversary!

Today marks the second anniversary of the Sly Cooper Fan Network! Two years ago I set out to create an epic Sly Cooper community constructed on a foundation of hope for a fourth Sly Cooper game; a hope that was not in vain as our wish came true when the fourth game was released in February. On November 20, 2011 I published the first draft of the site, and look how far we have come since then! There are nearly 1,000 blog comments, over 50 members, and hundreds of visitors a day. We have made friends across the world who share our interests and we have all had a great time. Sure, the site has slowed down recently, but I wouldn't lose hope yet!

More Evidence of "Sly 5 Master of Thieves?"

Today I was lurking on the Internet and found even more evidence of Sly 5 Thieves Be Forever. In my past videos and articles I have regarded Sly 5 Master of Thieves to be nothing more than a hoax conjured by an overly-anxious fanboy, but this potential Sly 5 retail poster has partially swayed me in the other direction. I first discovered it on FaceBook, but I don't know where the image originally surfaced. It seems strange however that retail posters would already be printed for a game that hasn't even been announced yet. If this poster is legit, it is even more proof that Sly 5 will in fact be for the Playstation 4. Also, the double-canes in the background look a lot like the canes used by Slytunkhamen Cooper from the picture in the Cooper Vault from Sly 3 Honor Among Thieves. This makes sense due to the fact that Slytunkhamen resides in Ancient Egypt, the very location Sly was revealed to be stranded in the secret ending of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

"Sly 5 Master of Thieves?"

I bring more from the Sly 5 front today with another possible leak, "Sly 5 Master of Thieves." So this image was supposedly leaked by a programmer on Tumblr. The tags placed on the image include "media," "tours," "caught," "sly 5," "iphone," "sneaky," "whoops," and "hideyourmonitors." So, lets analyze the Sly 5 logo. First thing I notice is that the "5," though its hard to tell, seems like its almost a slightly different font from the "Sly." I also notice that the "Master of Thieves" font seems far from anything on a Sly logo before. Theres also the fact that the "Sly" and the Cooper logo in the back are from another picture I've seen, and the rest was photoshoped out and the "5" is in its place. Due to these observations I find it hard to believe this is legit, but hey, ya never know!

Sly 5: "Sly Cooper Thieves Be Forever?"

Greetings from the dead. I have risen from the grave to bring "news" of Sly 5. So, for a short while on Amazon France, the game "Sly Cooper Thieves Be Forever" was listed a few months ago. Amazon France has been known to leak games before, but "Thieves Be Forever" doesn't sound legit. I mean, is Sly a gangsta in da hood now ma hommie? Other topics of concern include ancestors in Sly 5, a potential Sly 5 collectors edition, and the possible first hub in the next game. There are a lot of topics to discuss about the future of the Sly Cooper series, so for more you can watch my video here. Word.

So I know I haven't updated the site since around the time of the release of Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, I'm sorry about that. I am trying to add some new content to the site, if you have any ideas let me know. Also, to those of you who have recently signed up to be members, I apologize for not uploading your profile sooner. Due to the new SlyCooperNet.com domain, I may be rearranging how the members system is set up as well. Stay tuned for more updates and some will be on the way soon.

Sly Cooper Thieves in Time Review

2/5/2013

The triumphant return of Sly Cooper was long awaited, and the wait was worth it. Sanzaru, a somewhat obscure company, were huge fans of the series; but, due to the extended length of time in releasing a new chapter, they were just as disappointed as the fans that the reign of Sly Cooper had seemingly came to an end. As a result, Sanzaru took action and whipped-up a quick demo for Sony who gave the game their stamp of approval. After Sanzaru's announcement of Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, the fan base had a Dimitri freak-out that it wasn't being made by Sucker Punch! Blasphemy, right? Oh how wrong we were.

The game starts out with Sly itching to get back into thievery. While scoping out a target, Bentley arrives unexpectedly and gives him the scoop. The pages of the Thievius Raccoonus began disappearing, and along with it, Bentley’s girlfriend Penelope. Luckily, Bentley found the solution to the problem: time travel. After entrusting the book with Dimitri, the gang reassembled and began their journey through time, much to Carmelita’s dismay. The game also expands upon the Cooper family lineage and five ancestors, Rioichi Cooper, Tennessee ‘Kid’ Cooper, “Bob”Cooper, Sir Galleth Cooper, and Salim al Kupar.

Many things about Sly 4 feel very familiar to the previous Sly Cooper games. The game brings back the basics of Sly Cooper, such as the puzzle oriented gameplay, bottles, treasures, pick pocketing,  and my favorite, hacking. A subtle detail, but one that fans really appreciate, is that they used the same voice actors and musical composers. The new and improved gadget system and Thiefnet are much better, and every ancestor’s abilities feel unique and are fun. I would especially like to commend Sanzaru on the clever story line, which appeals to all ages and constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Sly Cooper Thieves in Time definitely did not completely conform to the previous games, and a lot of cool new things were added to the franchise. While the new multitude of unlockables seemed overwhelming at first, it really proved to add a ton of extra content to the game. Plus, if you are seeking even more gameplay, Sanzaru didn’t waste any time releasing the DLC, Bentley’s Hackpack, which adds 60 new hacking mini-games! Sly 4 feels like the natural progression of the Sly Cooper series.

There were very few things I disliked about the game, but they did exist. The loading screens seemed so ridiculously long that they appeared to need their own loading screen! I also thought some aspects of the game, especially Miss Decibel, were almost too childish, and the artwork in the cutscenes was definitely a downgrade from the first three games. Do not let this deter you from playing the game however, as these are only minor issues that are easy to look past.

All in all, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time is the best game so far in the franchise. Sanzaru Games has managed to successfully pull off the perfect balance of classic gameplay while breathing new life into the series and making it feel fresh again. I’m already looking forward to a Sly 5, and I think we can expect great things from both Sanzaru and Sly Cooper in the future.

Sly Cooper Thieves in Time Approaches... Are YOU Ready?

2/1/2013

Picture
We've waited 8 years for this, and in a few days it's finally here. This Tuesday, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time will be released, are you ready? For those of you not entirely up to date, here's a quick guide. This article assumes you've played the previous games...and if you haven't, y u no play Sly, bro?
Development
Sly Cooper Thieves in Time was created by Sanzaru Games, rather than Sucker Punch Productions. All the original main character's voice actors will be continuing their role in the 4th game, as well as the musical composer.
Plot
At the end of Sly 3, the gang split up for good, right? Wrong. Bentley began noticing the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus disappearing, and to make matters worse, Penelope has to. In order to restore the Thievius Raccoonus and the Cooper legacy, the gang re-forms, and is back for their most important heist yet...through time travel!
Returning Characters
Many characters from the original games are returning for Sly Cooper Thieves in Time. These incude Sly Cooper, Bentley, Murray, Carmelita Montoya Fox, Dimitri, and Penelope.
Ancestors
The newest aspect of the game are Sly Cooper's playable ancestors. Confirmed ancestors include, Rioichi Cooper, Salim al Kupar, Sir Galleth Cooper, and Tennessee 'Kid' Cooper. It is likely there will be more ancestors, but they have not yet been confirmed...luckily the game isn't far way!
Villians
Villians, the bane of our existence. Here's some of the bad guys you should expect. The Collector: an amphibious creature speculated to be the main villian in the game, El Jefe: ruthless mercenary working for The Collector; Grizzle B: a ridiculous looking bear; Ms. Decible: an even more ridiculous looking elephant; and possibly The Black Knight/Tyrant. Those were the confirmed enemies, but there are a few conspiracy theories circulating that Clockwerk will make an appearence. They aren't total crazies, like, "moon landing was faked" crazies, cuz they got proof, sort of. What proof? One collectible treasure in the game is a golden dragon claw with the words "Clockwerk was here" inscribed on it, and Glen Egan said he wouldn't be surprised if Clockwerk had something to do with the plot. Food for thought, no?
Down to brass tacks
So here's scoop. Sly Cooper Thieves in Time comes out this Tuesday (February 5, 2013). Unfortunately there is NOT a collectors edition. Even after many, including myself, have signed a collectors edition petition, our efforts did not yield any results. On a happier note, if you pre-order the game, you can get some pretty cool skins and a gauranteed copy on the release date. Sly 4 will be available on the PS3 and Vita with a cross-buy, and by uploading your saved data to the cloud, you can play the same save file on both platforms. Also, on a side note, if you haven't noticed, we have upgraded to SlyCooperNet.com, and ditched our old subdomain of SlyCooperNet.weebly.com. That's all for now, keep checking the countdown clocks and get ready for the best Sly Cooper game yet!

The new Sly Cooper Fan Network Holiday Edition Page is here! This new page includes Sly Cooper holiday cards, pictures, a "holiday blog," holiday downloads, and much more! The new page will only be up through December, so go see it while you can! In addition to the holiday page, we have published our first ever holiday card, which can be seen to the left! I'll admit, the idea did come from Sucker Punch, but I thought I'd make one since theirs aren't Sly Cooper themed anymore. From all of us here at the Sly Cooper Fan Network, we hope you have a happy holiday.
