Could Sucker Punch be Hinting at a New Sly Cooper Game? Also: Sly Cooper Movie news...

From Sucker Punch's Twitter 12/21/15
First of all, this is entirely speculation, nothing here is confirmed. However, I have a feeling that Sucker Punch may be working on another Sly game. I was strolling around online recently, and noticed that things have been pretty quiet around Sucker Punch. It's been two years since they released Infamous: Second Son, and their website hasn't been updated since they launched the First Light DLC. I recently decided to enter the 21st century by creating a Twitter account, so I decided to check out Sucker Punch's profile to see what's up. The first Tweet that caught my eye was from a few days ago on May 4th. To celebrate Star Wars Day, they uploaded a picture of (presumably) an employee sporting a Chewbacca outfit. Pretty ordinary, except for the fact that she's holding a Cooper Cane. BUT WAIT! That's not just any Cooper Cane, that's the cane that was leaked by Sony way back in 2012 that many believed to indicate a collector's edition. Perhaps its nothing, or maybe they have the cane because Sanzaru turned over development, along with related materials (including unreleased collectors edition merchandise) to Sucker Punch. As I dug back through Sucker Punch's Twitter history, I found tons of tweets with references to Sly Cooper that just seemed odd to me. While Sucker Punch never tried burying the series and continued to hide Cooper easter eggs in their games, they always did try to keep their distance from the abandoned franchise to promote Infamous, and to stave off all the harassment they received from fans like us! Perhaps I am way off-base, but never fear, the conspiracy runs even deeper!
I would have probably wrote this off as being a coincidence, but then I remembered a 2014 Facebook post by Sanzaru which essentially declared that they did not have any plans to develop Sly 5. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time wasn't as much of a smash-hit as everyone anticipated, but it has, by far, been Sanzaru's most successful title to date. To willingly not want to capitalize on a follow-up opportunity, especially since they left Thieves in Time open for a sequel, is simply absurd. If they aren't in fact working on a Sly game, it certainly isn't by choice. A far more likely scenario would be that Sucker Punch, wanting a break from Infamous, decided to develop the next installment. 2016 would be the perfect time for a new release as the Sly Cooper Movie is set to hit theaters at some point this year (that said, there has been no news about the movie since 2014, aside from a recent interview with the producer who mentioned that they are still working on it). Again, this is all speculation, but I have a feeling that something is cooking over at Sucker Punch Productions...

Over four years after receiving our very first member, Tabreez on November 26, 2011, today, with Bengoould937's registration, we've hit 100. Boom. Four years may seem like a long time to reach 100 members, but I still think its pretty amazing. The support I've received from you guys has been insane and I can't believe that the site has been so successful. While traffic has slowed down a bit since Sly 4 was released in 2013, the Sly Cooper Fan Network still pulls an average of 1,800 - 2,000 visitors per week, which is pretty awesome. Thanks to you guys, the Fan Network will hopefully be one of the few Sly Cooper sites that won't fall into obscurity and die. And that's simply amazing. Thanks everyone!

In response to several requests, we have just launched the brand new Sly Cooper Fan Network Fan Fiction Page. Its still a little rough around the edges, and its going to need some more submissions! If you're a writer and you want your Sly Cooper fan fiction to get featured on the site, then be sure the upload your work! In order to kick off the launch, I included an awesome story written by Slygirl25 from The Cooper Vault back in 2006. Since Sly 4 hadn't been released yet, she imagined what she thought the plot would be like. Check it out on the new page!

Sly Cooper Minigames!

I recently came across an archived version of the original Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus website here, and discovered that it had a ton of cool Sly Cooper flash minigames. Since the site is no longer online on the open web, I decided to break out some of my kun-fu and add a few of the games to the fan network! Check out the new Sly Minigames page to play Safe Cracker, Mesa City Shootout, A Thieving Opportunity, and Ship of Terror. These are only a few of the minigames available, so you can check out the rest on the original website. As I start getting the hang of fixing errors in the Flash programing on some of the other old games, I'll start adding more to the page in the future. Who knows, perhaps the Sly Cooper Fan Network will make our own game...

As I'm sure you've probably noticed, the website looks a lot different! I had originally planned to release the new design on December 18th, but finished earlier than I expected to and simply couldn't wait. As with most launches, there will probably be some glitches or bugs, so please let me know if you see anything weird. Since we just launched the new site, on December 18th, I'll release a new and improved Holiday Edition page. Expect some very cool things *cough* online Sly Cooper games *cough* in the near future...

Sly Cooper Fan Network: Fourth Anniversary!

That's right: four years ago today, the Sly Cooper Fan Network was born! We were around for the launch of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, we'll be around for the release of the Sly Cooper movie, and we'll hopefully be around for Sly 5! The past four years have been a wild ride, and you guys are the only reason this site has been as successful as it has. To celebrate the site's fourth birthday, I designed a new logo...which may or may not foreshadow some more changes in the near future...

I've been working hard each night to bring the site up to date, and here are the latest editions. The photos and videos page have been merged together to form the Media page. The Merchandise Guide on the Thievius Raccoonus page has been updated to include new, currently available Sly Cooper merchandise, such as, t-shirts, iPhone cases, and statues. The Links page has been heavily renovated to include eight new websites, four archives of past fan websites that have gone offline, and a form to submit links to Sly Cooper website (official or non-official) that you think should be added to the list. Four new topics have been added to the Sly Blog: a new general discussion, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. Thing are getting red-hot!

Introducing The Hideout - The New Members Page

So I guess its pretty obvious at this point that I'm back and updating again. The old membership system on site wasn't working very well and didn't provide much incentive for becoming a member as you couldn't even log into an account! The new members page allows you to maintain an actual profile page, change content, add friends, send messages, and much more. This is the most colossal change in the history of the Sly Cooper Fan Network, and hopefully marks the beginning of a bright future.

The Cooper Vault has gone offline

11/13/2015

One of the very first Sly Cooper fan websites, The Cooper Vault, formerly hosted at SlyCooperFS.webs.com, has gone offline due to inactivity. The popular hosting service Free Webs has begun freezing old, inactive websites in order to free up space, and many of the early sites that served as inspiration for the Sly Cooper Fan Network are rapidly disappearing. Without my predecessors, I'm not sure that this site would have ever been possible. I did salvage some content from some of the now-frozen sites over the years and included it here, but an incalculable amount of data has been lost forever. You can still view the addled, archived homepage of the Cooper Vault here.
"Check out every thing in this web site, Its so good, its just plain criminal !!!!!"
- Stephanie (AKA Sly_Cooper_Girl) and Brandi (AKA Slygirl25)
The Sly Cooper Fan Network has been backed up and saved with the Internet Archive Wayback Machine on several occasions in an attempt to ensure that if SlyCooperNet.com ever goes offline, it will still be preserved to hopefully inspire those who follow in the future. You can check out the latest backup here.

New Sly Cooper Downloads

I just discovered that the soundboard downloads on the Downloads page weren't functional (and probably haven't been ever since we changed domains from SlyCooperNet.weebly.com to SlyCooperNet.com), so I fixed the links, and the awesome soundboards from Sly Cooper and The Thievius Raccoonus can now be downloaded once more! I also added the Sucker Punch art pack to the downloads page (which I had to split up into two parts due to size restrictions), and the last surviving issue of Cooper Capers, the discontinued online Sly Cooper Magazine.

We're back.

Today, on the fourth anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (an entirely unrelated game) and almost a year of inactivity, the Sly Cooper Fan Network has returned. Expect some insane changes and updates over the coming weeks.
(Note: I had originally included a countdown clock on this post marking December 18th, but I decided to launch that event sooner once I've finished working on it rather than wait. I will be launching something different on December 18th, just not as massive of an update. Stay tuned for the big event as it hasn't happened yet...)

Sly Cooper Fan Network: Third Anniversary!

11/20/2014

They say that time flies when you're having fun, and the three years spent curating this site have given me so many amazing memories. I know, I haven't been active at all lately and I haven't even updated anything since February this year. I can't express how sad I am that I've let the site fall into neglect, but sometimes life just gets in the way, and after all, things died down in the world of Sly Cooper after Thieves in Time was released. Don't worry though, I promise that I'll be back and I won't let the fan network fall into abandonment.

Sly Cooper Animated Movie Coming in 2016!

So back in January a trailer was released for an upcoming Sly Cooper CG animated short movie which is being produced by Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. The response to the teaser trailer was mostly positive, yet there has been criticism over the new controversial art style and choice of voice actors. IGN has reported that Blockade Entertainment is working closely with Sucker Punch Productions and Sony (not Sanzaru), which is indicative that the movie will closely resemble the first three games in the Sly Cooper series. While some may be skeptical over the movie's release, it may help to learn that Blockade has produced animated films based on games before, including Ratchet and Clank and Heavenly Sword. According to IGN, here is the movie's official story synopsis:
"Sly Cooper is a kinetic and comedic heist film that tells the story of Sly Cooper, an orphaned raccoon thief, along with his childhood friends and partners in crime, Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo. In the film, Sly learns of his birth family’s secret legacy; that he comes from a long line of talented and international thieves. Endowed with this knowledge, Sly and his friends are catapulted into a global adventure as they race to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding The Cooper Clan’s family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk – an evil Russian metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line. From romantic Parisian backdrops to the lush mountains of China, gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels in this origin story of the world’s greatest thief-turned-hero."
My Personal Opinion:
I am skeptical of this movie as I detest the art style and Sly appears to have a different voice actor. However, I am extremely excited for the release of this movie. The premise seems epic and the very idea of a Sly Cooper movie is just outstanding (although there have been various fan-made movies over the years). Let me know what your opinion is of the upcoming movie on the Sly Cooper Fan Network blog (I recently added a section for the film), I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
